Read the Room

Read the Room, featured in the 2021 Wordplay Festival, is an in-progress top-down narrative game made by myself, Devin Clara Fanslow, and Feiyi Zhou. The game takes place at a reunion held at your family’s library where your great grandmother goes missing. The player uses a mind-reading ability to solve puzzles and navigate further throughout the game board in an attempt to uncover what’s happened. Watch the game demo for a look at some of the gameplay! (Note: if video not working on page watch in a new tab here)

Fines & Fees Challenge

I worked on Fines & Fees in conjunction with Professor Lien Tran as part of a research assistantship at DePaul University. The Fines and Fees Challenge is a series of interactive scenarios in Twine that highlight how fines and fees for petty offenses create impossible situations for those experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. For this project, I edited and updated existing game content and also wrote and designed new content to expand and adapt to what Professor Tran had started. All three twine scenarios can be played on the Poor Not Guilty website.

Gurgle’s Getup

Gurgle’s Getup is a alternative reality game made in the style of an old-school drag-and-drop dress-up simulator. It was made in p5js and features fun prompts generated to give some context to the outfits you create for Gurgle. While this is one of my earlier projects, it was one of my favorites to work on. It’s a short experience, but I hope a worthwhile one! Gurgle’s Getup can be played for free on itch.io.
